adidas is one of the world’s leading sports brands and is a favourite with both fashionistas and sport stars alike. Famed for their stylish designs, supreme support and of course, their world-famous logo – three parallel bars – the label continue to go from strength to strength.
The company was founded in tumultuous circumstances when two brothers and business partners – Adolf (Adi) Dassler and Rudolf (Rudi) Dassler – fell out with one another in post-war Germany. The rift lead to a split in their shoemaking factory, with Adi leaving to form his own company, adidas. Rudi’s shoemaking enterprise would later be rebranded as Puma – leading to a lifelong rivalry between the two brands. Who knew that two of the world’s biggest sports brands had such a deep-rooted history?
Initially focused on track and field sports, adidas soon took over the world’s football pitches with the launch of the Copa Mundial football boot in 1979. Worn by soccer greats like Eric Cantona and Diego Maradona, the boot has remained popular in the 25 years since its production and is still worn today by some of the Premier League’s top footballers.
Style and Function
Nowadays, adidas’ sportswear is synonymous with both functionality and style. The brand’s popular range of activewear wouldn’t look out of place on the football pitch, gym floor or catwalk. Lately, the brand’s crew sweaters, T-shirts, trainers and tracksuits have seen a surge in popularity and are some of this season’s must-have items.
As well as their range of shoes and activewear, adidas sell a surprisingly diverse selection of men’s and women’s beauty products, perfumes, sprays and fashion accessories, which have become a staple in the shower bags and gym kits of men and women throughout Ireland and further afield. They also sell a great range of range of children's clothes, for both boys and girls, which are the perfect option for active little ones, who prefer to run around rather than watch TV. The entire adidas collection is available on Littlewoods Ireland with free delivery.
